Repair Volkswagen Passat B3-B4/Passat B3-B4>> Engines>> Petrol engines of configuration R4>> Dismantling of the engine For dismantling install the engine on the stand. In the absence of the stand install the engine on a plain surface on a wooden support and record it from capsizing. Before dismantling clear the engine outside and wash out kerosene. Wash out the knots and details removed from the engine kerosene. Do not immerse in detail kerosene with internal lubricant channels. These details should be wiped carefully with the fabric moistened in kerosene, and to clean lubricant channels a wire and to blow compressed air. Put fine details in the prepared containers. When dismantling the engine keep old laying. They will serve as a sample for production of laying in case of lack of new.
After removal of the engine dismantle from it the following details, knots and units: generator, high-voltage wires of system of ignition, spark plug, ignition distributor; details of system of injection of fuel; inlet and final collectors; index of level of oil, oil filter, arms of support of the engine; coupling, flywheel or drive plate, thermostat and water pump.
Dismantling of the engine is carried out in the following sequence:
– take off a gear belt of the GRM drive (see subsection 3.1.4);
– remove the camshaft and pushers (see subsection 3.1.5);
– remove a head of the block of cylinders (see subsection 3.1.6);
– remove an intermediate shaft (see subsection 3.1.9);
– remove a flywheel or a drive plate (see subsection 3.1.8);
– remove the oil pallet (see subsection 3.1.10);
– remove the oil pump (see subsection 3.1.12);
– remove pistons with rods (see 3.1.13);
– check existence of numbering on covers 2 (see
fig. 3.27
) radical bearings, number a cover center punch if numbering is absent;
– turn off bolts of 1 fastening of covers of radical bearings No. 1, 2, 4, 5 and uncover 2 together with inserts. Do not depersonalize inserts of 3 radical bearings, at assembly they have to be established on the former places;
– check an axial side play of a bent shaft the probe 3
(fig. 3.36)
between a persistent half ring and a cheek of a bent shaft. If the axial side play exceeds admissible (see subsection 3.1.1), it is necessary to replace persistent half rings 4 and 6 (see
fig. 3.27
) or a bent shaft;
– turn off bolts of 1 fastening of a cover of the central radical bearing No. 3 and uncover;
– remove a bent shaft 7;
– remove inserts of 3 beds of radical bearings. Do not depersonalize inserts of radical bearings, at assembly they have to be established on the former places.
