When checking the generator, and also at operation of the car it is necessary to follow a number of simple rules not to put the generator out of action:
– do not allow operation of the generator with the switched-off rechargeable battery;
– do not check the generator for "spark" as at the same time via diodes considerable current proceeds, and they fail;
– do not check diodes more than 12 V or the megohm meter;
– when carrying out electrowelding works disconnect all wires from the generator and from the rechargeable battery.
Check serviceability of knots and chains of electric equipment and eliminate malfunctions at the idle engine and the switched-off rechargeable battery.
If at inclusion of ignition the control lamp of accumulator charging, a probable cause in the following does not burn:
– the break of a wire between the generator, the lock of ignition and a control lamp — is eliminated with check of tension on a chain, beginning from the generator;
– the rechargeable battery is discharged — check tension and if necessary charge the rechargeable battery;
– the bulb fused — replace it;
– generator brushes leaky adjoin to contact rings — check length of brushes and freedom of their movement in the holder;
– the winding of excitement of the generator burned down — check operability of a rotor and diodes and at detection of defects replace faulty details.
If the control lamp of accumulator charging does not die away at increase in frequency of rotation of the engine, a probable cause in the following:
– tension regulator failed — replace it with new;
– the wire between the generator and a control lamp has contact with "weight" — replace a plait of wires or in addition insulate a wire.
