Repair Volkswagen Passat B3-B4/Passat B3-B4>> Electric equipment>> Block of safety locks and relay

Fig. 15.20. Block of safety locks and relay: 1 – holders; 2 – the fixing pin; 3 – clamps; 4 – the fixing pins; 5 – adjusting element

The block of safety locks and the relay (the assembly block) is located in the lower part of the dashboard from the driver ( fig. 15.20 ). Access to the block is possible after unscrewing of a clamp and removal of a tray.

Fig. 15.21. Sequence of numbering of safety locks

Safety locks have numbering ( fig. 15.21 ), and chains which they protect are specified on a reverse side of a tray. The nomination of sockets of the assembly block is given in tab. 15.2.
For protection of electric chains safety locks of knife type which color corresponds to current of protection of a safety lock are used. Serviceability of a safety lock is determined by presence of the wire conductor connecting contacts of a safety lock. For replacement of the failed safety lock previously switch off the corresponding electric chain, take a safety lock from a nest tweezers. If again established safety lock instantly fails when giving tension, check the protected electric chain. If the safety lock protects several chains, then they need to be connected in turn in order that to determine a faulty chain by burn-out of a safety lock.
When replacing of the fused fuse, establish a safety lock only on a safety lock with the identical characteristic. For replacement of safety locks behind the panel there are plastic tweezers.
Relays are removed a simple pulling, and are installed by cave-in. On some relays placed behind the dashboard before their removal, it is necessary to remove two plastic brackets. The block of safety locks and the relay is removed after compression of fixing brackets from two parties of the block. Brackets can be moved forward and to take the relay from contacts of the block. Remove the block of safety locks and the relay, taking out by means of the lever from holders to weaken group contacts in the holder's openings.

For a detachment of a plait of wires of the contact socket from a back part of the block of safety locks and the relay, take away clamps approximately on 5 mm in the direction specified by an arrow ( fig. 15.22 ), or press the fixing ledge of the multioutput socket ( fig. 15.23 ).
