Repair Volkswagen Passat B3-B4/Passat B3-B4>> Systems of heating, ventilation and conditioning>> Filling of the conditioner with coolant

Fig. 14.7. The observation port (it is specified by an arrow) gives the chance to estimate the level of the filled coolant

Fig. 14.5. An arrangement of units and knots of air conditioning system in a motor compartment and the vacuum drive of the gate of recirculation/inflow: 1 – union of a vacuum hose (airinflow cover drive); 2 – relay of an electromagnetic clutch coupling of the compressor of the conditioner and relay of the fan of an obduv of a radiator of a heater; 3 – vacuum tank; 4 – dvukhkhodovy distributor of the drive of a cover of airinflow; 5 – control vacuum gate; 6 – condenser; 7 – compressor of the conditioner and electromagnetic clutch coupling of the compressor; 8 – a broad tank with a moisture separator and the safety valve; 9 – service cap of the valve of high pressure; 10 – sensor of pressure of turning on of the conditioner; 11 – sensor of temperature of outboard air; 12 – service cap of the valve of low pressure; 13 – broad valve; 14 – drainage valve of the evaporator

Effective work of air conditioning system requires necessary amount of coolant and its relevant gas station. Low pressure in system and insufficient amount of coolant is led to decrease in overall performance of the evaporator, and at very small quantity — to self-shutdown of the conditioner because of operation of the sensor of pressure. Even at an insignificant leak the filled amount of coolant will constantly go down that will demand new gas station of system. The observation port intended for a rough estimate of level of the filled coolant is provided in air conditioning system. The observation port (fig. 14.7) is located on the right side of a motor compartment and built in the highway of high pressure between the service valve of high pressure and a broad tank 8 (see fig. 14.5 ) with a moisture separator.
For check of level of coolant launch the engine and turn on the conditioner. At the working compressor in an observation port bubbles should not be observed. Presence of bubbles at least and on a short period demonstrates insufficient filling of coolant. Emergence of signs of foaming on inside of viewing glass can indicate almost total absence of coolant. For a complete recovery of operability of air conditioning system the highway of system has to be pumped out, checked for tightness and refuel the prepared personnel with use of the appropriate equipment.
